Happy Holidays! A time of twinkly lights,
chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and lots
and lots of shopping. A time when love,
joy, and peace abound.
But this year the Grinch could
be coming and he's bringing with him
a 5% tax on all cosmetic surgery procedures. In
case you haven't heard, the so called "Bo-tax"
is just around the corner.
On the bright side, we're as busy as ever
(thank you!) which is a good sign that the
economy is finally turning around. Hopefully,
things are looking up for you too.

COSMETIC SURGERY TAX PROPOSED |

federal
tax will increase your costs!
To help pay for the health care reform
bill that is being debated over the next
few weeks by the U.S. Senate, users of
cosmetic medical treatments have been
unfairly targeted with a 5% federal
tax on such procedures as Botox, Restylane,
Juvederm, facelift and eyelid surgery
and any cosmetic surgery procedure.
This tax on self-improvement should be
opposed because:
- The tax is punitive and places an
additional burden on the middle class
- The tax discriminates predominantly
against women
- The tax does not serve the goals of
health reform
- The tax mistakenly puts cosmetic medical
procedures in the same category as unhealthy
habits such as cigarettes and alcohol
("sin tax")
- The tax will be impossible to effectively
and equitably administer, converting
physicians into tax collectors
- The tax discourages scientific medical
innovation and promotes dangerous and
unregulated alternatives to otherwise
safe, FDA-approved and responsible procedures
This tax on cosmetic medical treatments
could go into effect as soon as January
1st, requiring us to collect an additional
5% on all your procedures, except those
procedures paid for by insurance out of
medical necessity. (If you have surgery
scheduled, you might want to pay in full
before December 31st, just in case...)
Please visit www.stopcosmetictax.org,
where you can write to your local Senators
or Representatives and sign a petition
against the tax.

Is Currently Debating The Bill, So Please

brighten
skin & even skin tone
Now we can offer you an alternative to
hydroquinone cream that really works! With
Vibrance Therapy by Vivite, you can brighten
your skin and even your skin tone. Rich
with anti-oxidants, this cream helps combat
uneven skin tone while it also helps protect,
calm, hydrate and rejuvenate skin.
Interestingly, a clinical study of twice
a day use of Vibrance
Therapy (which contains no hydroquinone)
was compared with prescription strength
4% hydroquinone cream in women aged 20 to
75 years.
After 8 weeks, 70% of patients
using Vibrance experienced a reduction in
uneven skin tone compared with only 63%
of the hydroquinone users.

| EVOLENCE
DISCONTINUED |

safe,
but not enough demand
Evolence,
a collagen based filler, was recently discontinued
by the manufacturer. Although still safe and effective,
Evolence just couldn't compete with Restylane
and Juvederm.
The biggest drawback of Evolence was that if you
got a lump or bump, it couldn't be smoothed or
reversed as it could with the hyaluronic fillers
such as Restylane and Juvederm.
Dr. Hoenig still opts for Evolence in the rare
case where the Restylane
causes a blue tinge in thin eyelid skin (known
as the Tyndall effect). Since Evolence isn't made
with hyaluronic acid, it doesn't cause that bluish
hue to occur so we'll still have Evolence on hand
as a useful tool for those patients.

LETTER of the month |

real
patients say it best
There is so much fan mail, it's really
hard to pick just one. Here's a note from
a gal who is a celebrity make-up artist...
"There are no words... I am so happy with
my new chin. I feel like a new person. My
kids and my boyfriend did not notice the change,
u did such a beautiful job, there are no signs
of work.
As for (-name removed-), Wow! Her eyes look
a million times better on camera and her fuller
face is very youthful! She doesn't see the
huge improvement, but the crew does and I
do!
She wants to come see you in a couple weeks
for botox and touch ups. I would love to come
with her and get the botox on my chin (cuz
of the dimpling) and put some Radiance in
my cheeks. I am addicted! I absolutely adore
you!
I know you are very busy, but I do work with
celebs, so I can pass along your name to my
clients if you would like. I would
trust you with everyone...
Have a wonderful week and I am looking forward
to seeing you again."

Remember, if you're planning to have surgery
in 2010, you might want to consider scheduling
now and paying in full before the end
of the year to avoid the additional 5% tax
that could be on it's way.
Whether you are a current patient, a prospective
patient or you're just gathering information,
we wish you and your family a joyous holiday
season.
Sincerely,
Danya Hoenig, PA-C
