Q & A with Dr. Hoenig:
kind of anesthesia
"What kind of anesthesia do you use?"
Dr. Hoenig performs the majority of his surgeries with oral sedating medications (like Valium), pain medication (like Demerol), and local and/or tumescent anesthesia. Tumescent anesthesia is a technique whereby a solution of Lidocaine, Epinephrine, and saline (salt water) is injected into the surgical area to numb the site, control bleeding, and minimize bruising. In some cases, intravenous (IV) sedation is used. Dr. Hoenig prefers not to use general anesthesia for cosmetic surgery because it can cause a "hangover effect" producing nausea, stupor, and a longer recovery period.
